Charles Barkley is not good at golf. Like really, really not good. Tiger Woods‘s former coach, Hank Haney, once tried, and mostly failed, to improve Barkley’s game as part of a Golf Channel reality show.
But on Sunday at the American Century Championship — essentially The Masters of celebrity golf — Sir Charles may have finally, at long last, discovered his secret to success on the links: Play one-handed.
Watch Barkley try his goofy, but apparently effective, one-handed swing at the 155 yard par-3 7th hole.
Pin-high, 40 feet. Remarkable. On the broadcast, several members of the gallery can be heard saying “Wow.”
After the stunningly good tee-shot (by Barkley standards, at least), the Inside The NBA star went on to make bogey — one of only four times he took less than the maximum score of double-bogey during the 54-hole event.
NBC commentator Mark Rolfing said of the fly-swatter-like back swing, “If he can knock it on a green one-handed, you’re gonna see him doing that (more often).”
We can only hope.
