‘You Made Me a Better Man’: Obama Delivers Final Weekly Address
President Obama delivered his final weekly address to the nation today, saying, “It has been the honor of my life to serve you as president.”
Obama thanked the American people for inspiring him and said, “You made me a better president and you made me a better man.”
He brought up all the people he’s seen in the past eight years serving their country and those around them in big and small ways.
“We can’t take our democracy for granted,” Obama said, “All of us, regardless of party, should throw ourselves into the work of citizenship. Not just when there’s an election, not just when our own narrow interest is at stake, but over the full span of a lifetime.”
He recalled his big “if you’re tired of arguing with strangers on the internet” line from his Chicago address this week as he concluded that more people need to get involved in their communities.
