‘Are You Sticking Around For Eternity?’ CNN Anchor Sends Karine Jean-Pierre Into a Fit of Laughter By Asking if She’s Staying On as WH Press Sec

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stopped by CNN’s New York studios Thursday for a wide-ranging interview on President Joe Biden’s policies, as well as for some friendly banter with the morning show’s anchors that left her in a fit of laughter.

Anchor Phil Mattingly peppered her with questions about the Israel-Hamas war, the 2024 election, and the border crisis before moving on to the economy.

“I asked you probably six million questions about the economy when we sat in the briefing room,” Mattingly said, referring to his time as chief White House correspondent.

“By the way, I miss you in the briefing room,” Jean-Pierre declared.

“I miss being in the briefing room,” Mattingly added. “New York’s nice, too, this is a nice place.”

“I’m from New York, I like New York,” Jean-Pierre agreed.

After discussing the Israel-Hamas war and the upcoming election, Mattingly had one more question:

MATTINGLY: I know you got to go, but one last one. You’ve been doing this for 20 months. This is a grind of a job, any administration, regardless of party.

JEAN-PIERRE: You’re keeping track? You’re tracking 20 months!

MATTINGLY: I used to cover the White House, Karine. I was there on your first day officially on the job. Are you sticking around for eternity?

JEAN-PIERRE:  No, well, as long as the president wants me on the job, I will be here. I’m not going anywhere. I love my job. I love my job. I get to know folks like you, I get to speak on behalf of the President of the United States, and it is important. It is important what we’re trying to do, trying to bring back the economy. Trying to do things that’s going to affect generations to come, that invest in America that you hear the president talk about. There is no other place that I would want to be right now than speaking for President Biden.

Poppy Harlow then spoke up, saying, “And you’re not getting Phil back. He’s not coming back to the briefing room. Don’t try.”

Jean-Pierre has been one of the longest-serving White House press secretaries in recent memory. She served as the principal deputy White House press secretary under Jen Psaki, who left her post in 2022 to join MSNBC.
