Art of the Deal Co-Author Declares ‘100%, Without Question’ Trump Would Take Foreign Money to Cover Legal Bills
Art of the Deal co-author Tony Schwartz believes Donald Trump would “100%, without any question” take foreign funds to pay for his legal bills, including a $175 million bond he owes in New York over a judgement on fraud charges.
The co-author behind Trump’s 1987 best-selling book joined CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Monday and held nothing back in his analysis of the man he once worked with.
“Money always comes first,” the writer said about the former president, arguing the constant talk of money and his own wealth thanks to his growing legal bills has a “psychological impact” on Trump because he’s seen as having “less than he has always claimed to be.”
At one point, Collins played footage of Trump speaking to reporters and saying it would okay to get money from a foreign bank, but he insisted he doesn’t need to be because he has “a lot” of money.
“I think you’d be allowed to possibly. I don’t know. If you go borrow from a big bank, many of the big banks are outside of this, as you know, the biggest banks, frankly, are outside of our country, so you could do that, but I don’t need to borrow money. I have a lot of money,” Trump said.
“Do you think he’d do that?” Collins asked Schwartz.
“One hundred percent, without any question. In a New York minute or a London minute or a Middle Eastern minute. But he is more than willing to do anything right now. I mean, look at his range of remarks over the last month or two,” he said.
The writer described Trump as more of a “gangster” today who belongs in prison.
“He belongs in a prison and, you know, we’ll see whether that gets adjudicated before election, but that’s where he belongs,” he said.
The author also sounded the alarm on “Trumpism” and how “pervasive” it’s become, citing recent NBC News hire Ronna McDaniel, a Trump ally who has received backlash since her hiring over claims that the 2020 presidential election was fraudulent.
“I hope it hasn’t spread to you and I hope it doesn’t spread to me, but it’s spread very, very wide, and it’s spread around the world,” Schwartz said.
