Presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden predicted that President Donald Trump would “try to kick back the election somehow” during an online fundraiser on Thursday.

“Mark my words, I think he is going to try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can’t be held,” Biden insisted, adding, “Imagine threatening not to fund the post office. Now, what in God’s name is that about?”

“Other than trying to let the word out that he’s going to do all he can to make it very hard for people to vote,” he continued, before claiming, “That’s the only way he thinks he can possibly win.”

“You can be assured between [him] and the Russians there is going to be an attempt to interfere,” he concluded.

Though President Trump has not yet indicated he’ll be delaying the 2020 election, many news outlets and magazines have written about the possibility since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Reuters, however, dispelled rumors earlier this month, noting, “Legally, it is Congress (not the President) that holds the power to determine the ‘Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections’, according to the Constitution.”

As Mediaite’s sister website Law & Crime further explained last week, “the Constitution contemplates that if the entire election becomes a failure, Congress has the power to enact a law which determines who acts as president,” and “the president does not control how the election proceeds: the states do.”

UPDATE: In a statement to Mediaite, Trump Campaign Communications Director Tim Murtaugh called Biden’s prediction “the incoherent, conspiracy theory ramblings of a lost candidate who is out of touch with reality.”
