Whopping 70% of Americans Disapprove of Biden’s Handling of Immigration: New CNN Poll
A new CNN poll showed that 70% of Americans disapprove of President Joe Biden’s handling of immigration.
Recently, there has been an influx of migrants crossing from Mexico into the U.S. Democratic mayors of large cities have called out the Biden administration, claiming the federal government has not provided them with enough aid and resources to house the migrants.
Respondents to CNN’s survey found that approximately 30% of Americans approve of his handling of immigration while 70% disapprove. The numbers represent the lowest issue approval rating for the president since he took the Oval Office.
Moreover, when asked whether or not the current influx of migrants at the border is a crisis, 79% of Americans agreed that it is. This level of concern among voters has not been seen since April 2021, according to CNN.
Regarding other issues, Biden also faces an uphill battle as 41% approve of his handling of the Russian-Ukraine war and 34% approve of his response to the Israel-Hamas conflict. In addition, approximately half of Democrats, 51%, say they approve of Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas War, revealing a weakness with his Democratic base regarding Israel.
Per CNN:
And the poll also finds a rise in hardline immigration sentiments. In multiple polls taken during Donald Trump’s presidency, the overwhelming majority of Americans said they favored developing a plan to allow some undocumented immigrants living in the US to become legal residents; in 2019, 15% or fewer said that the government should instead make it a priority to deport all people living in the US illegally. The share favoring mass deportations, while still a minority, has now roughly doubled to 31%. A 54% majority of Republicans now say the US should prioritize deportation, up from 32% who felt that way in 2019.
The survey was conducted with 1,212 U.S. adults between Jan. 25-30 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4%.
