CNN Anchor Gets Fed Up with GOP Rep’s Defense of Trump Over Jan. 6 Rioters: ‘What Does This Have To Do with Joe Biden?!’

CNN’s Boris Sanchez went from shock to outrage when a Republican congressman defended former President Donald Trump over his promise to pardon Jan. 6 Capitol rioters and tried deflecting the conversation to President Joe Biden.

Rep. Dan Meuser (R-PA) joined Sanchez on Wednesday and things got heated when Sanchez questioned Meuser on Trump’s talk of pardoning Jan. 6 rioters. Meuer referred to the riot as an “ugly day,” but said there were non-violent rioters who “got caught up in the riot.”

“I do think the president would address it for what it was, what the American people saw, and denounce it,” Meuser, the Trump campaign Pennsylvania co-chair, said.

“Well, he’s talked about pardoning those folks you were talking about being violent and that hurt a lot of Capitol police officers and other people as well,” Sanchez responded.

“No, no, no. Not violent, not people who hurt police officers. Those who were who got caught up in the riot, if you will —” Meuser said before Sanchez cut back in.

“He’s called them political prisoners, sir!” he said.

Meuser said some rioters were violent, but claimed others were simply “trespassers.”

“You’ve heard Donald Trump differentiate between those folks because I have not?” Sanchez asked, quickly repeating the question when Meuser did not answer.

The Republican lawmaker claimed he has heard Trump make this distinction — in private.

“I’ve had private conversations with him so certainly I have,” he said.

“You’re saying that these folks deserve to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The former president is talking about pardoning the same people that attacked you and your colleagues,” Sanchez eventually said after trying to wrap up the interview.

“And you know what?” Meuser asked him, then pointing to protests in American cities in the summer of 2020, many of which were a response to national news stories of police brutality. When Meuser brought up Biden, Sanchez stepped in again.

“What does this have to do with Joe Biden?!” asked Sanchez.

Meuser replied by saying cities were “destroyed” during protests that turned violent and tried drawing an equivalence to the Capitol riot.

“And that in no way shape or form answers the question about Donald Trump talking about pardoning the very people that you described as violent,” Sanchez said.
