Colorado Governor Jared Polis (D) took aim at Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) on Tuesday night, but instead of a conventional Democrat versus Republican attack, Polis hit Trump’s vice presidential pick from the political right.
Polis shared a post from former Fox Business Network host John Stossel, in which Stossel posted a quote from Vance and warned about his embrace of “big government.” The quote Stossel posted read:
But if you think those things are problems—if you think children killing themselves is a problem, if you think people not having families, not getting married, and feeling more isolated are problems then you need to be willing to use political power when it’s appropriate to actually solve those problems. If people are spending too much time addicted to devices designed to addict them, we can’t just blame consumer choice. We have to blame ourselves for not doing something. If people are killing themselves because they’re being bullied in online chat rooms, we can’t just say that parents need to exercise more responsibility.
“The Vance pick worries me. He’s a big government guy. But political power CREATED those problems. Government “solving” poverty with welfare encouraged those behaviors. Thinking your big plan will be better is a fatal conceit,” added Stossel, reacting to the quote.
Polis commented in a reply to Stossel, “What does it say about Trump that he picked a guy to be a VP who wants the federal government to be involved with making your most intimate decisions for you- whether to get married, have kids, and then wants the government to control how you raise your own children.”
