‘Scaredy Cat!’ Democrats Pounce On ‘Coward’ Trump Narrative Over Terminating ABC News Debate

Democrats quickly pounced on a Friday ultimatum from Donald Trump in which he announced he would not participate in the ABC News debate with presumptive Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris and demanded instead a Fox News moderated debate.

Trump posted Friday night to Truth Social that he agreed “with Fox News” to a September 4 debate and claimed a “conflict” with the ABC News debate.

“The Debate was previously scheduled against Sleepy Joe Biden on ABC, but has been terminated in that Biden will no longer be a participant, and I am in litigation against ABC Network and George Slopadopoulos, thereby creating a conflict of interest,” Trump wrote among other things in a late-night rant.

Fox News has not yet commented on Trump’s statement.

He had previously told Laura Ingraham he would “probably” debate. The Harris campaign has been taunting Trump over his ultimatum, saying he is “running scared” but without agreeing to a Fox News debate.

“Donald Trump is running scared and trying to back out of the debate he already agreed to and running straight to Fox News to bail him out,” the Harris campaign said.

Democratic lawmakers and liberal pundits and commentators subsequently ran with the “coward” talking point in a slew of Saturday posts on social media.

“Donald Trump is cowardly backing out of the debate he agreed to. One just like the debate he did in June. Now, he seems only comfortable in a cocoon, asking his happy place Fox to host a Trump rally and call it a debate. Maybe he can only handle debating someone his own age,” David Plouffe, a former Barack Obama advisor who recently joined Harris’s campaign, wrote on X.
