Democrats Roasted For Posting Photo of Ex-Veep Kamala Harris Attending Met Gala

Democrats faced a social media roasting after the party’s official X account touted former Vice President Kamala Harris’s appearance at the Met Gala.

“Kamala Harris stuns at the Met Gala,” the account posted, along with a picture of Harris from the event, wearing a black and white gown.

Harris made a surprise appearance at New York’s Met Gala on Monday, along with her husband, Doug Emhoff. Her gown was designed by Off-White. The former vice president was invited by Vogue editor-in-chief and Met Gala co-chair Anna Wintour, according to a spokesperson.

Critics, mainly conservatives and MAGA-loyal pundits, were quick to mock Democrats for celebrating Harris appearing at the swanky event just months after they lost the election to President Donald Trump.

“Because nothing quite says ‘TAX THE RICH’ like attending the Met Gala,” Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) wrote on X.

In 2021, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) received backlash after attending the Met Gala in a dress that carried the message: “Tax the Rich.”

“It was $75,000 for a person to attend,” Dana Perino noted on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom. “$350,000 for a 10-person table.”

Perino then read Harris’s “word salad” statement on politics and art.

“Art has always had a significant impact on not just culture, but also our policies and politics,” Harris told Vogue. “Artistic expression — whether it’s dance, music, visual arts or fashion — has a way of capturing the mood and language of the people without words. Art has the power to shape the conversation about where we are today and where we need to go.”

“As far as word salads go, that wasn’t the worst,” Perino said.

“As a guy who dressed pretty snazzy, I thought she looked like a half-moon cookie,” comedian and Fox News host Jimmy Failla added.

Some even took to mocking Harris’s gown, comparing it to the look of Cruella de Vil, the villain in Disney’s 101 Dalmations movie.

The Met Gala was one of only a handful of public appearances Harris has made since the election.

At the Emerge gala last week in San Francisco, Harris took aim at the president and accused him of being responsible for the “greatest man-made economic crisis in modern presidential history.”

“We all know President Trump and his administration and their allies are counting on the notion that fear can be contagious! They are counting on the notion that if they make some people afraid, it will have a chilling effect on others,” she said. “But what they’re overlooking, what they have overlooked… Is that fear is not the only thing that’s contagious. Courage is contagious.”
