Fox’s Cavuto Tells Nancy Mace, ‘A Lot of People Feel That You’re a Narcissist’
Neil Cavuto asked Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) about some recent criticisms from her colleagues.
Last month, Mace was one of eight Republicans to vote to remove Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker, which irked many of her fellow House Republicans. This month, the Daily Beast obtained a 2021 internal staff handbook for Mace’s office that included a quote for television appearances.
Meanwhile, the Washington Post published a report on Mace that featured comments from at least one member:
In late September, amid a bruising stretch of strife in the House GOP conference over a temporary spending bill designed to prevent a government shutdown, a Republican lawmaker texted a group of colleagues to vent about Mace, who voted against the GOP bill. The lawmaker included a link to a video posted by a personal injury lawyer turned Instagram influencer titled, “How to talk to a Narcissist.”
Another colleague said, “I didn’t get her at all, and was lost at sea for a few years but what [the video] was describing is what we all experienced,” the member of Congress said. “[Narcissists] love the drama.”
Cavuto asked Mace about the article on Wednesday’s Your World on Fox News:
CAVUTO: And I know, maybe, given your rising fame in only two terms, now seeking a third, you have certainly gotten a lot of people’s attention. There was a time that you liked Kevin McCarthy, then you didn’t, that you liked and supported Steve Scalise, and then you didn’t. Right now, you say you’re with Mike Johnson. That’s great. But they don’t trust you. In fact, there’s this Washington Post story that says, how do you talk to a narcissist? A lot of people feel that you’re a narcissist. It’s all about Nancy Mace. What do you say?
MACE: Politics sure is an ugly business, isn’t it, Neil? And when you are on the rise, people are going to attack you, no matter what. And I didn’t read the Washington Post article. I, quite frankly, don’t care what the Washington Post thinks about me. I care about what my constituents and my state and the people across this country that I’m trying to support. I care what they think.
I don’t serve Washington. I don’t serve the Washington Post. I serve the people of South Carolina. And that’s where we’re going to keep it.
Mace has had a flair for the dramatic. in October, she donned a “scarlet letter” after she voted to oust McCarthy.
“I’m wearing the scarlet letter after the week that I just had last week, being a woman up here and being demonized for my vote and for my voice,” she said at the time. “I’m here to let the rest of the world know and the country know, I’m on the side of the people.”
For his part, McCarthy said Mace deserves to lose her reelection bid next year.
