‘God Will Pull the Plug on Us’ if We Don’t Support Israel, Warns Lindsey Graham
Senate Budget Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) warned Republicans in a speech on Wednesday that “God will pull the plug on us” if the government stops supporting Israel.
Seemingly responding to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) remarks accusing Israel of conducting genocide against the Palestinian people, Graham said during his speech:
Israel is in a fight for their lives. Our friends in Israel are surrounded by people who would kill them all if they could. I am tired of the word “genocide”! Let me tell you about genocide. If Israel wanted to commit genocide, they could. They have the capability to do that. They choose not to. Hamas, they would commit genocide in 30 seconds. They just can’t. And that’s the big difference, folks.
To people in my party: I’m tired of this crap! Israel is our friend. They’re the most reliable we have in the Mid-East. They’re a democracy surrounded by people who would cut their throats if they could. This is not a hard choice if you’re an American. It’s not a hard choice if you’re Christian. A word of warning: if America pulls the plug on Israel, God will pull the plug on us. We’re not gonna let that happen.
He concluded, “Israel is not the bad guy. They’re the good guy. The bad guys are the radical Islamists who would kill everybody in this room if they could. So, I haven’t lost my vision of right and wrong.”
Last month, Greene accused Israel of carrying out a genocide in Gaza and criticized her Republican colleagues for supporting it.
The congresswoman doubled down on her remarks last week, accusing AIPAC of “breaking U.S. laws” and calling for the pro-Israel group to “register as a foreign lobbyist.”
“Every single freshman member of Congress this year, they just took them over just recently and had them meet with the prime minister of Israel,” said Greene during an appearance on The Matt Gaetz Show. “They take them over to meet with the secular government of nuclear-armed Israel. Israel who is less than $400 billion in debt. Israel who has taxpayer-funded healthcare and college. Israel is not hurting and they’ve already proven that they are more than capable of not only defending themselves, but annihilating their enemies to the point of genocide, and that’s what’s happening in Gaza.”
She concluded, “If AIPAC wants to come after me and accuse me of betraying my American values– AIPAC, you know what? You can bring it on. I am totally ready for this and this is a fight that I will fight and I will give it my all, and I can guarantee you, you’re gonna lose because America is fed up.”
Greene is just one member of a growing faction in the Republican Party that has expressed opposition to continued U.S. support for Israel against Gaza and expressed concern over Israel’s influence in American politics.
Former Trump White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has repeatedly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent months and called for an investigation into Fox News to determine whether the network was “dealing directly with foreign intelligence services.”
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson has also expressed concern over Israel’s influence on U.S. politics, as has former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz.
