Congressman Brian Mast Says Dead Babies in Gaza ‘Are Not Innocent Palestinian Civilians’

Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) had a shocking response when asked about babies killed in Gaza by Israeli forces.

Members of the left-wing activist group Code Pink confronted Mast in the halls of Congress on Tuesday and called him “heartless” for his fervent support of Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza in response to the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks, which killed 1,200 Israelis. The Israel Defense Forces have killed more than 25,000 Palestinians since that time. About 70% of the dead were women and children according to the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry. Additionally, hundreds of thousands of Gazans are starving, according to the United Nations.

“You are heartless,” one Code Pink member told Mast in a video posted on the group’s YouTube and Twitter accounts. “Do you realize how heartless you are?”

The video then jumps ahead (or back) and shows another activist asking Mast if he has seen the images of dead and dying babies in Gaza:

CODE PINK: You haven’t seen the pictures of all the babies being killed?

MAST: These are not innocent Palestinian civilians across the world.

CODE PINK: Babies?!

MAST: When you’re looking at–

CODE PINK: What about the half a million people starving to death?

MAST: The half a million people starving to death are people that should go out there and put a government in place that doesn’t go out there and attack Israel on a daily basis.

CODE PINK: These kids? These seven-year-olds?

Mast has previously denied there are such people as “innocent Palestinian civilians.”

“I think when we look at this as a whole, I would encourage the other side to not so lightly throw around the idea of ‘innocent Palestinian civilians,’ as is frequently said,” Mast said during a floor speech in November. “I don’t think we would so lightly throw around the term ‘innocent Nazi civilians’ during World War II.”

An Army veteran who lost both legs in Afghanistan, Mast also volunteered for the IDF. In October, he wore an IDF uniform in the Capitol.
