Ilhan Omar Criticizes Netanyahu For Focusing More on Her Comments Than Pittsburgh Shooting in AIPAC Speech

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) responded to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Tuesday, calling him out on indictment charges he faces in his home country after he swiped at her in a speech.

“From this Benjamin: It’s not about the Benjamins!” Netanyahu had said in an video address to the American Israeli Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C. Tuesday morning, referring to Omar’s infamous tweet accusing U.S. politicians of being beholden to Israeli money.

Omar invoked recent charges against Netanyahu accusing him of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. Netanyahu said the charges against him were prompted by a “witch-hunt” from left-wing Israelis.

“This from a man facing indictments for bribery and other crimes in three separate public corruption affairs. Next!” tweeted Omar, following up with a tweet storm condemning Netanyahu.

White supremacist violence is on the rise globally. Right-wing extremists killed more people in the US in 2018 than any year since 1995. Anti-Semitic violence accounted for 58% of religious hate crimes.

Omar ridiculed Netanyahu for attacking her in his AIPAC address. She accused the Prime Minister of ignoring “white supremacist violence,” including the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, accusations of Muslim Brotherhood alliance against her and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Netanyahu’s affiliations with the right-wing Otzma Yehudit, in order to slam her for her tweet.

Netanyahu is in an alliance with Otzma Yehudit, referred to as the “KKK of Israel.” Its leaders were members of a foreign terror organization and were involved in attempts to target Yitzhak Rabin.

At the end of her tweets, the congresswoman concluded with the repeated line, “Yet Netanyahu chose to focus on…me.”

“Netanyahu and the GOP may want to make this about one Muslim-American refugee’s views, but I am not alone,” she tweeted.
