Judge Judy Sheindlin, better known as simply Judge Judy, came to Donald Trump’s defense over his conviction on more than 30 felony counts, calling the charges “nonsense.”

Judge Judy joined Chris Wallace for an interview released Friday in which she blasted Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for the resources given to the Trump trial rather than “criminals.”

“You gotta twist yourself into a pretzel to figure out what the crime was,” Judge Judy said about the case.

Trump was convicted on more than 30 felony counts related to falsifying business records. The former president was convicted of falsifying business documents related to hush money payments made ahead of the 2016 presidential election in order to hide an affair with adult film actress Stormy Daniels. He’s continued to deny knowledge of any payments and that the affair happened. His sentencing is scheduled for July 11.

Judge Judy, who now hosts a courtroom show on the streaming service Freevee, said as a Manhattan property owner, she’d rather she Bragg spending time and resources on going after more dangerous criminals.

“I would be happier, as someone who owns property in Manhattan, if the district attorney of New York County would take care of criminals who were making it impossible for citizens to walk in the streets and use the subway, to use his efforts to keep those people off the street, than to spend $5 million or $10 million of taxpayers’ money trying Donald Trump on this nonsense,” she told Wallace.

The judge went on to accuse Bragg of using the court system for his “personal self-aggrandizement.”

Judge Judy may see the conviction as “nonsense,” but she made clear she is no Trump supporter. She previously campaigned for Nikki Haley during the GOP primary. In the 2020 election, she similarly endorsed a Trump competitor in Michael Bloomberg.

She praised Trump as a good businessman and host of The Apprentice, but said he never should have been president.

“I don’t think that Donald ever should have been president and I don’t think Donald even thought he was going to be president,” she said of Trump.
