Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) criticized Hunter Biden’s imminent federal gun trial on Monday, arguing that the “average American” would not have been charged with such crimes.

“I think any average American who’s done their taxes like Hunter Biden would have probably faced prosecution, however, I don’t think the average American would have been charged with the gun thing,” said Graham, according to HuffPost senior politics reporter Igor Bobic.

Graham – who previously described Hunter’s father, President Joe Biden, as “a good friend” – added, “I don’t see any good coming from that.”

A jury comprising six men and six women was selected for Biden’s gun trial on Monday, with the opening statements of the trial scheduled for Tuesday.

Biden has been charged with three federal crimes related to the purchase of a firearm in 2018 and is accused of lying about his drug addiction on an application for the firearm.

“I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today,” said President Biden in a statement defending his son, Monday. “As the President, I don’t and won’t comment on pending federal cases, but as a Dad, I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him, and respect for his strength. Our family has been through a lot together, and Jill and I are going to continue to be there for Hunter and our family with our love and support.”
