Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) endorsed former Donald Trump in the Republican presidential primary on Monday despite the fact that his lone remaining opponent, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, helped her prevail against a Trump-backed primary opponent back in 2022.

Mace was highly critical of Trump in the wake of the January 6 Capitol riot, declaring “I believe we need to hold the President accountable. I hold him accountable for the events that transpired for the attack on our Capitol,” but nevertheless voted against impeaching him for his role in inspiring the riot.

As punishment, Trump endorsed Katie Arrington’s primary challenge against Mace while calling Mace “an absolutely terrible candidate,” “crazy,” and “a terrible person.”

Haley, on the other hand, helped Mace beat back the primary challenge, deeming Mace “a fighter who stands up to Biden’s reckless spending, punches back against lawless lockdowns and mandates, & is strong on border security” and raising money for her campaign.

Notably, Haley even recorded a campaign ad for Mace in which she proclaimed that the congresswoman was “tough as nails” and praised her for retaking the seat from a Democrat that Arrington lost to in 2020.

Haley is trailing Trump in both New Hampshire and South Carolina and is contending against a party that has consolidated around the former president.

Mace joins a long list of Republicans who have hopped back on the Trump Train over the last few weeks, including Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, and even Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who bowed out of the race on Sunday and bashed Haley in a statement endorsing Trump, who mercilessly mocked and smeared him throughout the 2024 cycle.
