Politico dubbed the 2024 presidential race “the genitalia campaign” in an article on Monday, which documented former President Donald Trump’s fascination with phalluses.

In the article titled, “Size matters: 2024 becomes the genitalia campaign,” Politico national political correspondent Adam Wren and writer Emmy Martin delved into Trump’s history of “locker room talk,” inspired by the former president’s Saturday remarks about golf legend Arnold Palmer’s manhood.

Trump recounted a story about Palmer’s genitals during a rally on Saturday, telling the crowd, “Arnold Palmer was all man. And I say that at all due respect to women. And I love women… But this guy, this guy. This is a guy that was all man. This man was strong and tough.”

The former president added that when Palmer “took showers with the other pros, they came out of there. They said, ‘Oh my God. That’s unbelievable.'”

“When Trump shared an off-color story about the size of the late golfer Arnold Palmer’s penis,” wrote Wren and Martin, “he lurched the reins of the race and headed, for him and the broader GOP, down a well-trodden path.”

The two argued that Trump was closing his campaign, “by intention or instinct or perhaps both, with a message of masculinity specifically geared toward those who are turned off by changing sexual mores and the political correctness around them.”

Wren and Martin cited Trump’s nickname for Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz – “Tampon Tim” – as well as his history of making “illicit sex and golf references,” including a remark about Mark Cuban’s “really low clubhead speed.”

They also pointed to former President Barack Obama’s thinly-veiled penis joke at the Democratic National Convention in August as evidence of the 2024 “genitalia campaign,” before theorizing that Trump’s remarks could be an effort to court “the male voters he needs to overcome his deficit with women.”
