Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) expressed opposition to the idea of President Donald Trump accepting a $400 million Boeing 747-8 airplane from the government of Qatar on Monday, remarking, “They support Hamas, so I don’t know.”

“I’m not flying on a Qatari plane. They support Hamas,” said Scott after Trump argued it would be “stupid” not to accept the plane. “I don’t know how you make it safe.”

The senator continued, “‘Gosh, let me give you a plane.’ I mean, that seems pretty nice, but they support Hamas, so I don’t know. I don’t know how you make it safe… I don’t want the president of the United States flying on an unsafe plane.”

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) also shared their concerns over the possibility of Trump accepting such a gift.

“It would be better if Air Force One were a big, beautiful jet made in the United States of America… That would be ideal,” said Hawley, while Collins weighed in, “If Qatar gives a plane to the president of the United States, it seems to me that raises questions of whether the administration would be in compliance with the gift law.”

President Trump tore into critics of the Qatari gift on Sunday, branding them “World Class Losers.”

“So the fact that the Defense Department is getting a GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE, of a 747 aircraft to replace the 40 year old Air Force One, temporarily, in a very public and transparent transaction, so bothers the Crooked Democrats that they insist we pay, TOP DOLLAR, for the plane,” wrote Trump. “Anybody can do that! The Dems are World Class Losers!!! MAGA.”
