Trump Wildly Claims Jimmy Kimmel Was ‘Fired For Lack of Talent’ When Pressed on Free Speech in the US

President Donald Trump insisted that the recently suspended Jimmy Kimmel was actually “fired” due to an apparent “lack of talent.”

Kimmel’s suspension was announced by ABC on Wednesday, and it came as a direct result of Kimmel’s recent comments on the killing of Charlie Kirk. In his monologue, Kimmel accused the right of trying to score political points by characterizing Kirk’s killer “as anything other than one of them.”

The latest reports from authorities suggest the suspected killer, despite being raised in a conservative household, had adopted left-leaning views and was in a relationship with someone who identifies as transgender.

The backlash from the right was immediate, and the FCC’s Trump-picked chairman even threatened ABC over Kimmel’s comments. Under pressure from the Trump administration, ABC made the decision to suspend Kimmel and his show for an indefinite period of time.

During a press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump was asked by a reporter if free speech was under attack in America. The reporter specifically cited the Kimmel situation, prompting the president to say:

Kimmel was fired because he had bad ratings more than anything else, and he said a horrible thing about a great gentleman known as Charlie Kirk. And Jimmy Kimmel is not a talented person. He had very bad ratings, and they should have fired him a long time ago; so, you know, you can call that free speech or not. He was fired for lack of talent.

At the time of writing, Kimmel was not fired by the network.
