GOP Strategist Scott Jennings Jabs at ‘Aimless’ Young Men Who Live With Parents: ‘Need To Be Given Something to Do’
GOP strategist Scott Jennings took a shot at young men who still live with their parents, stating that they could use the kinds of jobs that President Donald Trump has pledged to bring back to the U.S.
Last week, Trump announced the imposition of massive tariffs on virtually all imports, starting at 10%. He targeted dozens of countries for much higher rates, including China, whose imports will be tariffed at a rate of 104%. All tariffs go into effect on Wednesday. The decision – rooted in fake tariff numbers presented by the White House – has roiled markets over the last several days and has wiped out nearly $6 trillion in the stock market.
Trump believes that imposing premiums on imports will encourage companies to make more goods in the U.S. His approach has been widely panned.
Jennings and other panelists tackled the issue on Wednesday’s CNN NewsNight.
“The United States is experiencing – right now – one of the lowest periods of unemployment ever,” host Abby Phillip said to Stephen Moore. “And when some jobs are lost in some industries, they are gained in other industries. There has been a shift in the type of labor that the United States has. So you’re making it sound that when those jobs are lost, it just disappears and nobody does anything.”
Phillip went on to say that the labor market remains a bit tight, stating, “It’s not like we’re living in a world in which two million people are just like, floating around doing nothing.”
“Abby, I think there are a lot of people,” Jennings interjected. “I think a lot of young men are floating around in communities all over this country that do nothing, that live in their parents’ basement, and basically are aimless and shiftless and need to be given something to do.”
“I get it,” Phillip said.
