Trump Boasts He’s ‘Allowed’ to Pardon Ghislaine Maxwell — But Insists It Would Be ‘Inappropriate to Talk About It’
President Donald Trump again refused to rule out pardoning convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell during a Monday morning press event with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for her role in helping traffic underage girls for the late sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein. The Trump administration is currently embroiled in an ongoing controversy surrounding the closing of the Epstein case despite pledges made by Attorney General Pam Bondi to release the Epstein “client list.”
“I’m allowed to give her a pardon,” Trump insisted, repeating a claim he made on his way to Scotland on Friday. “Nobody has approached me with it or asked me about it. It’s in the news about that, that aspect of it. But right now it would be inappropriate to talk about it.”
Maxwell spent two days meeting with Trump’s deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, last week and was provided “Queen for a day” limited immunity to share more information. Some in Trump’s orbit have begun to pivot to a bizarre idea that Maxwell is somehow a victim, and concerns are growing that Trump might cut a pardon deal with Maxwell for a politically expedient result.
