Trump Declares MSNBC a ‘Threat to Democracy’ at CPAC: ‘They Shouldn’t Be Allowed to Lie!’

President Donald Trump called MSNBC a “threat to Democracy” during a speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland on Saturday.

Prior to attending the conference, Trump went on an all-caps rant on Truth Social claiming the network has “BAD PEOPLE AT THE TOP!”

Trump further blasted the outlet by using a common nickname he has for the network: “MSDNC.”

“MSNBC, COMMONLY KNOWN AS MSDNC, IS A THREAT TO OUR DEMOCRACY. SUCH LYING AND MISREPRESENTATION. BAD PEOPLE AT THE TOP!” Trump told his followers on the platform.

Trump reiterated his attacks against MSNBC at CPAC but focused much of his anger on MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow – who he claimed “gets no ratings.” The president also said MSNBC “should be allowed to lie.”

“I watch this MSNBC – which is a threat to democracy,” he said. “Actually, they’re stone-cold mean. I mean, but they’re stuttering. They’re all screwed up. They’re all mentally screwed up. They don’t know what – their ratings have gone down the tubes.” Trump continued:

I don’t even talk about CNN, CNN’s sort of like and I don’t know, they are pathetic, actually. But MSNBC was mean. The ratings are absolutely down. This Rachel Maddow, what does she have? She’s got nothing.

Nothing. She took a sabbatical where she worked one day a week. They paid her a lot of money. She gets no ratings. I should go against her in the ratings because, I’ll tell you, she gets no ratings. All she does is talk about Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump. All different subjects: Trump this, Trump, that. But these people are really, I mean, they lie. They shouldn’t be allowed to lie every night. They are really a vehicle of the Democrat Party.

Trump ended his screed against MSNBC after noticing Gordon Chang in the crowd.

“Is that Gordon?” he asked.
