Trump Goes All Caps to Claim China Tariff Deal Is Done — But ‘SUBJECT TO FINAL APPROVAL’

President Donald Trump announced on social media that he has reached an agreement with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, over trade tariffs.

Trump’s announcement comes 10 weeks after Trump announced a draconian new tariff policy that unsettled markets and raised serious concerns about a looming economic recession as a result of his so-called “Liberation Day.”

“OUR DEAL WITH CHINA IS DONE,” Trump wrote on Truth Social in his inimitable ALL CAPS style, though he quickly undermined that declaration by saying it’s “SUBJECT TO FINAL APPROVAL WITH PRESIDENT XI AND ME.”

Trump wrote:

OUR DEAL WITH CHINA IS DONE, SUBJECT TO FINAL APPROVAL WITH PRESIDENT XI AND ME. FULL MAGNETS, AND ANY NECESSARY RARE EARTHS, WILL BE SUPPLIED, UP FRONT, BY CHINA. LIKEWISE, WE WILL PROVIDE TO CHINA WHAT WAS AGREED TO, INCLUDING CHINESE STUDENTS USING OUR COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES (WHICH HAS ALWAYS BEEN GOOD WITH ME!). WE ARE GETTING A TOTAL OF 55% TARIFFS, CHINA IS GETTING 10%. RELATIONSHIP IS EXCELLENT! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Trump’s admission that he is “good” with Chinese students using American Colleges and Universities is notable as it comes at a time when his rhetoric against foreign students at other universities, such as Harvard, has been particularly harsh.
