A Philadelphia 76ers beat writer for PhillyVoice was fired after he called out the team for tweeting a statement in support of Israel.

In the wake of the ongoing conflict between Israel in Palestine, many sports teams and leagues have released statements condemning the violence and standing with Israel. Others, however, have accused Israel of instigating the violence due to its occupation of Palestinian territories.

Among the latter crowd was PhillyVoice writer Jackson Frank, whose now-deleted tweet in support of Palestinians cost him his job.

“This post sucks!” Frank said Monday. “Solidarity with Palestine always.”

Later that day, PhillyVoice confirmed to The New York Post was Frank was let go.

“Mr. Frank is no longer employed by PhillyVoice.com as of today,” CEO Hal Donnelly told The Post. “We stand with everyone who is absolutely outraged by the senseless attacks in Israel, by the loss of innocent lives and violence against civilians.”

Frank has also deactivated his account since his firing.

As The Post noted, Frank had only been on the job for about a month. He was brought on in the wake of reporter Kyle Neubeck’s departure.

The outlet also reached out to Frank, but he declined to comment on the firing.
