House Dem: ‘Terrifying’ That ‘Dictators…Despots…and Kleptocrats’ Like Trump, Putin, and Duterte Are Organizing
A House Democrat appearing on CNN says he’s afraid of the possibility that “dictators” and “kleptocrats” are organizing, comparing President Donald Trump to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) was speaking with CNN anchor Kate Bolduan on her show Friday morning, and at one point, Bolduan asked the congressman about the New York Times reporting that Rudy Giuliani “is headed to Ukraine to try and get the new president there to investigate two things … one, the origins of the special counsel’s Russia investigation and also Joe Biden’s son’s involvement in a gas company owned by a Ukrainian oligarch.”
Raskin responded that “it’s a terrifying thing … All of the dictators, and despots, and tyrants, and kleptocrats, and bullies around the world have found each other.”
Bolduan noted that Giuliani was asked by the Times about the “outrage factor” of potentially pressuring a foreign government to pursue investigations against Trump’s political foes.
“We’re not meddling in an election, we’re meddling in an investigation, which we have a right to do,” Giuliani said in an interview with the Times.
Raskin disagreed — saying leaders like Trump, Putin, Duterte and their allies are “trotting around the world like Steve Bannon” to organize extremist elements.
“This is what they want to focus on,” Raskin said. “They’re not interested of doing the work of the American people.”
