Ivanka Trump Posts Inspirational Quote From ‘Socrates’ That is Very Fake

Ivanka Trump tweeted out an inspirational quote on Tuesday morning, which she attributed to Greek philosopher Socrates.
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new,” the senior White House official wrote, attributing the Goopian piece of inspo to everyone’s favorite father of western philosophy. The tweet was quickly deleted, but screenshots remain:

Moments later, however, Ivanka reposted the tweet with a slight edit:
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”

“Socrates (note: a fictional character not the philosopher),” she noted.
After some digging, it seems Ivanka Trump’s character is sourced from a fictionalized memoir by gymnast turned self-help author Dan Millman, which features a mentor nicknamed Socrates.
From the 1980 book, Way of the Peaceful Warrior:
Back in the office, Socrates drew some water from the spring water dispenser and put on the evening’s tea specialty, rose hips, as he continued. “You have many habits that weaken you. The secret of change is to focus all your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”
Ivanka Trump has misattributed inspirational quotes before. During the 2016 election, she attributed a quote from Hillel, the 1st century B.C. Jewish sage, to actress Emma Watson.
