‘Some Validity To That’: Fox’s Will Cain Claims Trump Giving New Nickname to Gavin Newsom Proves He Could Replace Biden on Ticket

Will Cain, of Fox & Friends Weekend, floated an interesting theory Saturday that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) could still be a serious contender to replace Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket. The clear-cut sign? The fact that former President Donald Trump has anointed Newsom with a new nickname.

Trump has a penchant for furnishing his serious contenders with nicknames. Who can forget “Crooked Hillary,” “Sleepy Joe,” “Ron DeSanctimonious,” and even “Birdbrain.” The theory goes that when Trump feels threatened by a serious opponent, he gives them a moniker.

Enter California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Cain explained the theory to co-hosts Pete Hegseth and Rachel Campos-Duffy:

CAIN: (The Democrats) put up a field of three or four candidates ’cause you can’t just ignore Kamala [Harris]. But you put her in knowing full well she doesn’t win, and the delegates go, “OK, I’ve got [Gretchen] Witmer, I’ve got Newsom, I’ve got Kamala,” and that’s how, at the end, you end up with new someone like Newsom. And, by the way, I think some validity to that is given — Trump’s got a new nickname for Gavin Newsom and that shows, in some way, the seriousness of Gavin Newsom. You know what I mean?

CAMPOS-DUFFY: Hmm. That’s an interesting point.

HEGSETH: What’s the nickname, “Greasy Gavin”?

CAIN: “Newscum.”

HEGSETH: Oh! “Newscum.”

CAMPOS-DUFFY: New, like, scum?

CAIN: Mmm-hmm, I don’t know, yeah.

CAMPOS-DUFFY: Ok. All right. Well, I guess that could happen. I mean, I don’t know.

HEGSETH: It’s plausible, but highly unlikely.

For the record, Newsom said in a recent MSNBC interview that there was “no chance” of him running for president in 2024. He claimed he would go “to the ends of the earth” for President Biden, whom he called a “man of character, a man of decency” who has a “record of accomplishments.”
