Trump Concludes Speech in Anti-Gay Saudi Arabia — By Blaring Gay Bathhouse Anthem YMCA
President Donald Trump is extremely fond of the 1970s disco classic by The Village People, YMCA. He is unafraid to end many, if not all, of his political rallies with that song blaring as he does his signature dance move, points to people in the audience, and saunters his way off the stage.
We also know that The Village People’s music emerged from the gay rights movement of Lower Manhattan following the Stonewall Uprising of 1969, in which gay patrons fought back against the NYPD, who were arresting bar goers solely for being gay.
Saudi Arabia may be transforming culturally into a more Western-friendly nation, evidenced by President Trump’s attendance and American moguls to discuss economic development. However, there is no denying it has a terrible record on human rights, in particular the rights of LGBTQ Saudis, where being gay is illegal and punishable by death.
So it was a fascinating move by President Trump to blare the iconic gay anthem YMCA moments after Trump concluded his speech to assembled members of the Saudi royal family and other well-to-do economic developers.
Trump refrained from doing his now-famous dance moves as Prince Mohamed bin Salman arose and walked to greet Trump for a handshake, all the while, YMCA blared in the background.
