CBS Evening News Displays Image of the Wrong Country During Segment on Military Action in Syria

CBS Evening News viewers with a knowledge of Middle East geography may have noticed an errant graphic on the show Tuesday night.

As anchor Jeff Glor opened a segment on the United States weighing military action in Syria in response to an alleged chemical attack on a suburb near Damascus, a graphic that blared “PUNISHING SYRIA” along with the image of a country sat beside him.

But the country was Iran not Syria. They got the wrong country.

“The president is getting closer to a decision on how the U.S. will respond to an apparent chemical weapons attack against civilians in Syria,” Glor announced. “David Martin at the Pentagon has more on this.”

Martin’s dispatch reported that the U.S., Britain and France are “outlining plans for a high-stakes strike in Syria.” (Here’s to hoping officials in those countries can spot Syria on a map before they bomb Rouhani’s bathroom…)

CBS Evening News‘ YouTube page right now shows the segment with a corrected graphic.
