Chuck Todd: Looks Like There’s ‘Systemic Effort to Destroy’ People Around the Russia Probe

Chuck Todd opened Meet the Press today with the political backdrop for tonight’s State of the Union:

“The state of our republic is in a bit of trouble. The leader of our democracy seems intent on at least trying to corrupt part of the Justice Department, either wittingly or unwittingly, in an attempt to, well, deal with the Russia probe… It sure looks like there’s been a systemic effort to destroy people or institutions around the Russia probe and around special counsel Bob Mueller.”

Todd recapped all the news from James Comey‘s firing to Andrew McCabe‘s stepping down yesterday, bringing up the memo being touted by Republicans and suggesting that Trump may just be “going after the fact-finders.”

Todd then brought on OMB Director Mick Mulvaney to preview the State of the Union, but not before asking him about Russia probe-related matters.
