CNN Airs Gut-Wrenching Interview with Gold Star Family Who Never Heard from Trump

As President Trump continues to face scrutiny over how to properly console gold star families, CNN had a highly-emotional interview on Thursday with a military family whose son was killed in May.

Etienne Murphy was an army specialist who died after when his armored vehicle experienced a rollover in Syria. Murphy’s parents have not received a call from Trump to acknowledge their son’s death, and when they appeared on the network to talk about this, one could practically see the agony pouring out of them.

Sheila Murphy was in tears throughout most of the conversation about how hard it was to cope with the loss of her son. After she and Calvin Murphy recounted how they heard the tragic news, Alisyn Camerota asked the two of them if they ever heard from anyone at the White House.

Here’s Mrs. Murphy’s tearful response.

“No, I haven’t. I haven’t, but it’s okay. It doesn’t matter if I hear from the White House or not because it’s not really about…it’s not about a call or letter. I just want people to remember my son and all the other gold star moms, Mrs. Johnson, all those who are grieving. Trust me, none of us want to be in the position, and the worst thing I ever have been called is a gold star mom.”

Murphy continued to say she has no hard feelings for anyone over her son’s death, she just doesn’t want him or any other fallen soldier to be forgotten. She also spoke about the letter she previously sent to the president as a complete expression of her “indescribable,” “un-get-throughable” pain.

“I don’t want it to be about me or about a letter,” Murphy said. “I want it to be about my child and what he stood for and what they are fighting over there right now as I speak.”

Murphy concluded with a statement about the grief of gold families experience, and she included references the current commotion between the president and Sgt. La David T. Johnson‘s family.
