CNN Panel Slams Sarah Sanders: The Suggestion ‘No One Can Question Gen. Kelly’ Is ‘Dangerous’

Right after today’s White House press briefing, CNN’s political panel slammed Sarah Huckabee Sanders for saying it’s “highly inappropriate” for anyone to be questioning Gen. John Kelly.

Kelly defended President Trump yesterday in his ongoing flap with Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, but video shows that one of his comments about her was inaccurate.

CNN political director David Chalian said he was “a little confounded” by Huckabee Sanders’ attempts to defend Kelly on Friday, especially when she said his remarks should have marked the end of the story. He said the White House doesn’t get to decide when stories end.

Chalian was also stunned by Huckabee Sanders’ suggestion that Kelly is “beyond reproach and should not be questioned for his own words simply because he was a 4-star general.”

Huckabee Sanders said in the briefing that she thought it “highly inappropriate to “get into a debate with a four-star Marine general.”

CNN senior political reporter Nia-Malika Henderson said that Kelly “twisted what happened” in Wilson’s remarks, and went on to say this about Huckabee Sanders’ remarks:

“This notion that somehow no one can question Gen. Kelly because he is a military man is dangerous. I mean, it’s frightening. It’s absurd. And, of course, no one is going to pay attention to that.”

Brianna Keilar was struck by Huckabee Sanders’ “absurd statement” about the media continuing to cover this, while former retired Rear Admiral and State Department spokesman John Kirby agreed that of course Kelly “should be questioned” and scrutinized by the press.
