CNN’s Brooke Baldwin Incensed By Trump’s Response to McCain’s Death: ‘It’s Despicable’

President Donald Trump has been receiving a ton of criticism for his lack of direct public statements on the life and legacy of John McCain after the Arizona senator passed away Saturday.

Trump’s Twitter statement offered his thoughts and prayers to McCain’s grieving family, but didn’t say anything directly about the man. The White House has not yet released an official statement (which the President himself reportedly nixed), and many people were shocked when the flag at the White House was no longer at half-staff this morning.

Reporters attempted to shout out questions to Trump at the White House to get a formal presidential statement at multiple events today, but the questions have so far gone unanswered by the Commander-in-Chief.

After playing clips of Trump not answering shouted questions earlier, CNN’s Brooke Baldwin said, “I think to watch the President––I saw the flag pictures this morning from the White House––but to watch the President… twice, you know, not saying anything about this hero, this lion of a man––it’s despicable. It’s despicable.”

CNN special correspondent Jamie Gangel said, “It’s clear that John McCain gets under Donald Trump’s skin.”

She said a Republican lawmaker essentially told her, “I’m not surprised, but couldn’t he say something?”

Chris Cillizza, meanwhile, said Trump has clearly shown over and over he takes the “low road” and does not use the office of the presidency to show strong moral leadership.
