CNN’s Joan Walsh on Dems Taking Shots at Ocasio-Cortez: ‘She Looks Mature and They Look Juvenile’
On Friday, CNN political analyst Joan Walsh responded to a Politico report claiming that “exasperated” Democrats are working to rein in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez by saying it was the Democrats, not the young Congresswoman, who was being “juvenile.”
Politico reported earlier on Friday:
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is already making enemies in the House Democratic Caucus — and some of its members are mounting an operation to bring the anti-establishment, democratic socialist with 2.2 million Twitter followers into the fold.
The effort, described by nearly 20 lawmakers and aides, is part carrot, part stick: Some lawmakers with ties to Ocasio-Cortez are hoping to coax her into using her star power to unite Democrats and turn her fire on Republicans. Others simultaneously warn Ocasio-Cortez is destined for a lonely, ineffectual career in Congress if she continues to treat her own party as the enemy.
They also quoted Democrats, such as Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) saying things like this: “I’m sure Ms. Cortez means well, but there’s almost an outstanding rule: Don’t attack your own people.”
Yet, according to Walsh, the one that looks bad in the article is the Dems taking swipes at Ocasio-Cortez.
“I think she looks mature and they look juvenile,” Walsh said. “Some people were quoted on the record, some off the record. She is bringing real enthusiasm to the process. I think she has matured. That’s a condescending word, so I’d like to take it back.”
Walsh added, “There are several ways she moderated her stance toward other Democrats. Democrats are crazy to be criticizing this woman.”
