Brian Stelter lit up Donald Trump on Wednesday after the president called the media the “biggest enemy” to America because of their critical coverage of his summit with Kim Jong Un.
Stelter joined Poppy Harlow today for a discussion on AT&T’s new legal clearance to merge with CNN’s parent company, Time Warner. Trump vocally opposed the proposed merger on countless occasions, so Stelter was joined by Jeffrey Toobin as they pored through the questions of whether the Department of Justice challenged the merger because of Trump’s hatred of CNN.
Eventually, Stelter brought up Trump’s latest attack on the “fake news” press because of their skepticism for how he handled the denuclearization summit with North Korea. The CNN media analyst wasn’t playing around today,
“That is absolutely disgusting!” Stelter said of the president’s remarks. “Disgusting!”
“You know what’s interesting? Checks and balances worked,” Stelter said, going back to the AT&T-Time Warner case. “The judiciary looked at this, a neutral party looked at this case and found it was not anti-competitive and if there was interference – and if the president’s fingerprints are on this – it doesn’t work.”
