Congresswoman Rages That Border Agents Who ‘Want to Fight’ Are Instead ‘Passing Out Blankets’ to Migrants

Rep. Laurel Lee (R-FL) tore into the Biden administration over its maladministration of the United States’ southern border with Mexico on America’s Newsroom Tuesday morning, even going so far as to express her disapproval of border agents distribution of blankets to migrants.

Asked about the administration’s efforts to secure the border to date, Lee argued that it “has clearly done nothing that’s serious to secure the border.”

“We’ve watched for three years while President Biden sat back and talked about things like root causes while allowing the drug cartels to take operational control of our border. The situation that this has created across America and in our communities is tragic and it’s dangerous. We know that it’s not just people coming across. We’ve seen the consequences of fentanyl trafficking, human trafficking, and there’s just no reason at this point to have any confidence that Joe Biden actually wants to secure the border,” she continued.

Keying in on influx of fentanyl coming across the border, Lee lamented that “the trafficking of fentanyl is affecting every community across America” before blasting Biden and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for their failure to curb the overdose epidemic.

“We have brave men and women of Border Patrol who are down there ready, willing and able, who want to enforce our laws, who want to fight for our country. And instead, as you point out, they’re being assigned tasks like passing out blankets and working as travel agents to just bring people into this country,” asserted Lee. “We don’t know who they are. We don’t know where they’re going. We do know that quite a number of these people, some are even on the terror watch list and they’re getting spread out throughout America with these notices to appear that many of them simply ignore. So this is a crisis that is a true danger to our country and something that House Republicans are committed to putting a stop to.”

Prior to Lee’s appearance, Fox News senior national correspondent William La Jeunesse reported that border agents in Texas, Arizona, and California were “being overrun” by the waves of migrants attempting to enter the country.

La Jeunesse said that they were being “welcomed by the administration with a blanket, a bus ticket, a work permit, and notice to appear in court that will ultimately go unenforced for about 90% of those migrants.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says that it encountered 2,475,669 people at the southern border during fiscal year 2023.
