Crowley Asks GOP Rep. About Subpoenaing VA Officials: You ‘Subpoena Everyone Else’

State of the Union host Candy Crowley pressed Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Jeff Miller (R-FL) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on the extent of oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs, wondering whether firing VA Secretary General Eric Shinseki would address the true extent of the problem. While doing so, she also jabbed at the House GOP and its many subpoenas.

“This is much larger than the secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs,” Miller said. “You’ve got an entrenched bureaucracy out there that is not accountable, shooting for goals, goals that are not helping the veteran. …We have 118 outstanding requests right now to Department of Veterans Affairs in regards to oversight that they will not answer.”

“Can’t you just subpoena them?” Crowley asked. “They subpoena everyone else.”

“We have subpoenaed them and they will be appearing before our committee Wednesday night,” Miller promised.
