David Axelrod: Christmas Was an ‘Orgy of Self-Pity and Rage’ from Trump

The Axe Files host David Axelrod dubbed President Donald Trump‘s Christmas holiday “an orgy of self-pity and rage” from the White House.

Axelrod’s comments were made during a conversation Wednesday night on CNN with Jim Sciutto, filling in for Anderson Cooper.

Sciutto brought up the fact that Trump talked about how the windows had to be blacked out when they were landing in Iraq.

“He didn’t say nervous but he did say that he had concerns about the safety,” Sciutto replied. “Is that the kind of thing presidents should do to soldiers, servicemen and women on the ground who are facing very real threats every day?”

“Clearly not,” Axelrod replied. “It’s been two years and it’s good that he went to see the troops… We should give him credit where credit is due, but no, he should not have said that or many of the other things.”

Then after saying that the trip seemed like a box-checking exercise, Axelrod did note that it did change the subject when it came to Trump, regarding the President’s his Tuesday tweets.

The trip “was clearly planned before everything that happened [in the past days.] Yesterday was kind of an orgy of self-pity and rage on Twitter from the White House. So, it changed the subject and put him in a much better position… It is a valuable thing.”
