Democratic Senator Hirono: GOP are ‘Re-Victimizing’ Christine Ford In Asking Her to Testify

Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) appeared on CNN’s New Day this morning to discuss the political debate du jour and likely pleased show producers with headline-worthy commentary the led us all to this blog post!

The topic centers on Dr. Christine Ford’s demand to hold out on testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee until after the FBI thoroughly investigates her claims that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her over three decades ago. The eleventh-hour allegations have delayed confirmation, and potentially derailed them all together.

At current issue is how Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee — all of who are men — can most expediently deal with the political conundrum they are currently faced with. With midterms approaching, they are eager to appear to be respectful of the allegations at hand, while at the same time, they want to keep this confirmation train moving for fear of a delay that could be a political — and judicial — disaster for the GOP who would love to see Kavanaugh on the bench.

In the interest of expedience, Senator Richard Grassley announced that he saw no reason to delay a tentatively planned Monday hearing, which Senator Hirono took issue with, in a remarkable manner.

“I am totally disappointed that all of these people who have come forward to say we should hear from her and now that she is expected a modicum of fairness so she’s not re-victimized are now saying ‘if she doesn’t want to testify, we should just go ahead.'”

Conservative heads will certainly explode upon hearing the suggestion of re-victimization by asking her to explain her allegations of sexual assault from 35 years ago.

In case viewers missed her frustration, she added: “that’s callousness from my colleagues I am totally appalled by.”
