Fmr Trump Adviser Michael Caputo Says Dan Coats Bashing President at ‘Liberal Enclave’ Aspen is ‘Despicable’
CNN’s Alisyn Camerota had a bristly exchange with political strategist and former Trump campaign adviser Michael Caputo on Monday as they discussed Director of National Intelligence and Trump-appointee Dan Coats‘ appearance at a security summit in Aspen last week.
Caputo said he has “a lot of respect” for Coats, before calling him “despicable’ in the same sentence.
Coats was speaking with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell on stage, and on camera, when Mitchell informed the head of intelligence for the United States that the President of the United States had just announced he’d invited Sovie… err, Russian President Vladimir Putin to the White House. Which was something the Director of National Intelligence did not know about until Mitchell read him the tweet that served as an official announcement.
“Do you that DNI Coats, you think that that happens all the time where he’s surprised by a revelation is being announced to him live on camera with Russia? It doesn’t,” Camerota said. “These are unusual times, Michael.”
“I love Dan Coats, I’ve got a lot respect for him,’ said Caputo. “What he did out in Aspen was despicable, and I’m glad he apologized.”
He also says he doesn’t like Coats going to the “liberal enclave” in the first place.
Republican Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, who is a Republican, was appointed by Donald Trump to his current job as Intel chief from his previous job, where he was a Republican senator from Indiana.
