Fox & Friends Challenges IDF Spox on Hospital Video Claims: ‘How Do You Know They Were Hostages?’
Mark Regev is a Senior Advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and received a warm but challenging welcome during a Monday appearance on Fox & Friends.
Over the weekend, the IDF released a video that purports to show tunnels exist, as well as a video that appears to show surveillance footage from inside the Al-Shifa Hospital. There has been a debate over whether the terrorist group Hamas has used the tunnels underneath the hospital command center or “command node” to direct attacks like that which killed over 1,000 Israeli citizens on Oct. 7.
Steve Doocy showed sharp journalist bona fides by opening the conversation with an entirely reasonable question about the claims the IDF is making about the footage. “Let’s start right there with the closed-circuit footage showing bloody victims — or bloody people — being taken into the hospital. But I know the IDF is saying those are hostages, and they’re obviously after they were treated; they were probably carted off someplace. How do you know they were hostages?”
“So first of all, it’s clear they’ve been identified that they were people taken in the horrendous and horrific attack of October 7th,” Regev replied before promising more evidence to come. “Because we’re slowly going through all the cameras at the hospital, we found these pictures. I’m sure we’ll find more, but we find documented evidence that those hostages were taken to the hospital by Hamas, not for medical treatment, but because that’s where they were in prison, that’s where they were held.”
He then claimed that this is proof that Hamas is committing a war crime, saying:
And now this puts, I think, exposes clearly Hamas’s lies. They’ve been saying for weeks that they’ve got no military installation there under the hospital. And more concerning is you’ve got international organizations who have been parroting this Hamas fiction that there is no a no Hamas military presence under the hospital. And, you know, we’ve not seen it. We’ve never seen no proof. I think it’s time the whole world now admitted Hamas has been brutalizing the people of Gaza and Hamas has deliberately used this hospital as a shield for its military machine. And all those in the international community, those in the UN and other organizations who’ve been saying for weeks there’s no evidence these are only Israeli claims. Yes, it’s now time that they admitted something. Hamas has committed a war crime.
Lawrence Jones presented a more sympathetic audience to Regev, saying that “The UN has never stood with Israel in modern day time,” before asking how the IDF counters that, in his words, the “international community” is skeptical of Israel’s claims, “Because right now it appears that you guys are losing.”
“We’re showing the proof,” Regev replied, though no actual proof has been shown, only strongly suggestive evidence that may evolve into proof. “That’s how we’re countering the lies. We’ve got we’ve got pictures of of the hostages inside the hospital and not receiving medical treatment once again, but being just held there. And we are sure that there are others. And we’ll find pictures of that, too. I believe we’ve got pictures of the tunnels. We’ve got pictures of this shaft going down and the underground, deep underground and leading to the network of tunnels that Hamas has there.”
Brian Kilmeade then asked about footage of the tunnels that leads to a steel door that the IDF is concerned is “booby-trapped,” which could lead to the Hamas “command node” alleged by the IDF and confirmed by the US military.
“You showed us a video where we have a video on the spire with a metal spiral staircase going down, and then you see the concrete walls, and then you get to a steel wall,” Kilmeade noted. “You guys believe it’s booby-trapped. Do you have a plan to open up that door?”
Regev revealed that they are using caution so as not to injure any IDF military members and that they hope to open that door in the next day or two and have international media down the tunnel to capture video footage that they insist will be proof of their claims.
