Fox News Pundit Warns GOP Senators on Pete Hegseth’s SecDef Nomination: ‘I Dare Any Republican Senator to Vote Against Him’

Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz dared Republican senators to oppose President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of former Fox News host Pete Hegseth to be secretary of Defense.

Trump nominated former Fox & Friends Weekend co-host Hegseth, a combat veteran, on Tuesday, which was his last day at Fox.

A small sampling of Republican senators offered mixed reactions to the news.

“Wow,” Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) reacted. “I’m just surprised because the names that I’ve heard for Secretary of Defense have not included him.” Meanwhile, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) simply asked, “Who?”

However, Sen. Ted Budd (R-NC) called Hegseth “an impressive individual.”

Not surprisingly, Fox News talking heads hailed the nomination. On Tuesday’s edition of The Ingraham Angle, Laura Ingraham said Hegseth will make the U.S. military less “woke.”

“He’s been on that issue on what woke-ifying our warrior class has done to military morale to recruitment,” she said. “He has been on the problems we’ve had on our deficit and recruitment like nobody’s business. And man, that’s gonna be a big, big task for him to undertake once he gets into the Pentagon, which, of course, he’ll get confirmed no problem, given his incredible background.”

Chaffetz, a former Republican former congressman from Utah, also predicted Hegseth will be confirmed, while issuing a warning to GOP senators.

“I think he’ll get easily confirmed,” he said. “I dare any Republican senator to vote against him. That is not in their best interest. And we need to get him in place as soon as possible. Relief is on the way. This is exactly what I think America was striving for. And I can’t believe how excited I am.”
