Fox’s Doocy Says ‘Sorry to See You Go’ to Departing Psaki, Who Replies, ‘Are You?’

The White House announced on Thursday that White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki will be replaced by her deputy, Karine Jean-Pierre. Psaki is departing the Biden administration on May 13 and is set to begin a gig at MSNBC.

During Thursday’s briefing, Psaki called on Fox News White House Correspondent and occasional nemesis Peter Doocy. The two shared a rare, light-hearted moment.

“Thank you, Jen,” he said. “Sorry to see you go.”

“Are you?” she replied, and the room broke out into laughter.

“Yes, and you’ve always been a good sport,” he responded. “So on behalf of everybody, thank you for everything.”

Doocy looked at Jean-Pierre and told her, “Can’t wait to see you up there, Karine.”

He proceeded to ask Psaki about President Joe Biden denouncing Trump supporters as “extreme,” and whether leftist activists publishing the addresses of Supreme Court justices qualifies as such.

Psaki and Doocy have frequently sparred since the beginning of President Joe Biden’s term. It’s made for good television, not to mention fodder for a fair number of articles on this website.

On a podcast last month, Psaki was asked if she prepares for Doocy’s questions ahead of briefings.

“I do have the quad boxes on my screen, which is four boxes, including Fox,” she explained. “And you can often tell what they may be asking about. This is based, on a particular day. It rotates through. The border. You know, ‘Don’t Say Gay Bills,’ other issues that, sometimes the Iran deal. So, you know, there’s sort of a couple of topics they like to talk about.”
