Fox’s Trey Gowdy Implores Republicans to ‘Not Use the Justice System As a Weapon’ And NOT Confirm ‘Absurd AG Pick’ Matt Gaetz
Fox News host Trey Gowdy offered a stark warning to Republicans in Congress over President-elect Donald Trump’s “absurd” pick for Attorney General Matt Gaetz.
Gaetz has come under massive scrutiny upon recent allegations that he had sex with an underage girl and paid for sex as well — allegations reportedly detailed in a House Ethics investigation that has not been released, but will almost certainly come to light in the form of a leak or during a confirmation hearing.
Bill Hemmer introduced the topic by citing Trump and his allies consistently warning about “lawfare” during the 2024 campaign.
“I don’t know how you felt about the documents case in Florida or the Jack Smith thing in Washington, D.C. Coming after January 6th, but when you look at all of them and think that there is a possibility they could all be now dissolved, zero for four,” Hemmer noted. “You are a man of the law. That is your profession. What do you think of how this went?”
“Do not use the justice system as a weapon,” Gowdy said about Trump’s cases before pivoting to sending a clear message to Congressional Republicans, where he served representing South Carolina for some time.
“The message for Republicans is don’t do it on the other side, either, with this absurd AG Pick that you just made. Justice is different,” Gowdy said. “It is a combination of policy, law and also morality. You do not use our justice system as a political weapon. Voters rejected it in November and will reject it if Republicans try to do it. Some things rise above the din. The justice system is one of those things.”
Surely, Gowdy gets credit for bravely speaking out against Trump’s pick, someone who has been lavishly praised in cartoonish terms by Elon Musk. Some skeptics might also recall the Gowdy-led Benghazi hearings, which were not a weaponized Department of Justice effort but something that Hillary Clinton and her allies felt was certainly similar.
