CNN’s Jake Tapper used his Tuesday afternoon monolouge to tear into Donald Trump for his attacks against the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, as a majority of the team did not want to visit the White House and thus received a disinvite from the president.

This morning, Trump claimed the Eagles were not visiting the White House because they disagreed with him on the issue of players kneeling during the national anthem. However, as Tapper pointed out, none of the players on the Eagles team knelt in the regular or post season.

“According to a member of the Eagles with whom I spoke, that claim by President Trump is a lie,” Tapper said. “This player tells me that not one Eagle cited the president’s view on anthem protests when discussing the reasons they did not want to attend.”

Tapper went on to condemn the president’s attacks against the Eagles, saying they are, “False. Deceptive. A lie.”

The host noted that an Eagles player said that “reasons vary from player to player” as to why the athletes did not want to visit the White House for the traditional champion ceremony.

“The president gives people so many reasons not to go,” added the player, per Tapper. “Lots of guys who are white and even conservative balked at the possibility of going.”

Tapper concluded The Lead‘s intro by noting that while he is “a huge fan of the Eagles,” he is also “a huge fan of the truth.”

“When you look at this controversy, when you look at the president lying about the Eagles taking a knee during the anthem and look at falsely suggesting that the eagles stayed in the locker room, when you look at the White House press secretary paid with your tax dollars attacking the team over and over, ask yourself, would members of the Philadelphia eagles say the president seeks to divide us? Are they wrong?” Tapper questioned.
