Jamie Raskin Implies Trump Was ‘Bankrolled’ By Saudi Monarchs and Chinese Communists While Serving as President
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) pushed back on Trump’s non-salary while serving in the White House, implying he was “bankrolled by Saudi monarchs and Chinese Communists.”
Raskin appeared on Morning Joe Friday morning, one day after House Democrats published a stunning report alleging that former President Donald Trump earned $7.8 million in revenue from foreign nations while serving as president.
Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released a 155-page report on Thursday that alleged businesses owned by Trump received at least $7.8 million from 20 foreign governments, including China, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, while Trump was in office.
“The founders of our Constitution were terrified that presidents or other federal officials or members of Congress would sell out the American national interests simply by receiving money from foreign governments and doing their bidding,” Raskin explained. “And Donald Trump has fulfilled the worst fears and nightmares of the founders.”
“$7.8 million that we were able to document in receipts from foreign nations — China and Saudi Arabia being the two leading countries —just scratched the surface of what is certainly much broader money coming in because it was only for a two-year period out of his four-year presidency,” he added. “It related only to four of Trump’s more than 500 businesses,” suggesting many more examples yet to come.
“It was a moneymaking operation from the beginning,” Raskin said of the Trump administration, “and we’re just starting to find the millions and millions of dollars he collected from the government.”
He then anticipated the objections emerging from Trump’s family members, saying, “Well, he didn’t take his salary of $400,000 a year.”
“That’s all you’re allowed to take,” the Democratic Congressman explained. “The framers set up a system, and it’s in the Constitution that the only thing that the president can take is his salary from Americans. So you’re not being bankrolled by Saudi monarchs and by Chinese communist bureaucrats.”
