On Tuesday, Daily Show’s Jon Stewart had his eye squarely on Fox News, taking the network to task for using a “pundit prep document” to guide its coverage and steer conversation away from the recovering economy.
After first poking fun at both Mitt Romney (“That guy just makes it way too [bleeping] easy.”) and Rick Santorum, Stewart shared that, on February 10th, the RNC sent out a document emphasizing how to, as Stewart put it, “mitigate any damage that may be occurring from the improved economy.” It advised pundits to focus on national debt, unemployment and rising gas prices. He placed special emphasis on Gretchen Carlson asking — twice — why “no one” was talking about the rise in prices at the pump.
He also showed that Carlson’s co-host, Steve Doocy, actually read from the document on Fox & Friends, thus revealing how the game is played while playing it.
