‘Look Where You’re Going!’ Michael Cohen Reacts to Peter Navarro Praising Trump as He Heads to Prison

Michael Cohen scolded former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro, who reported to prison on Tuesday to begin serving a four-month sentence for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena.

Before walking into FCI Miami, Navarro held a press conference and again slammed his prosecution. The former trade adviser to ex-President Donald Trump claimed his carceral fate is an “assault on constitutional separation of powers” and an example of the “partisan weaponization of our justice system.”

During Tuesday’s OutFront on CNN, host Erin Burnett aired a clip of the presser.

“Are you nervous and have you spoken to Donald Trump?” a reporter asked Navarro.

“I am not nervous. I am not talking about– I’m gonna claim executive privilege on Donald Trump conversations,” he replied, even though former presidents and former presidential advisers cannot assert executive privilege. “I’ve had the greatest amount of support from Donald Trump and his team.”

Burnett and Cohen, who knows a thing or two about going from Trump’s inner circle to prison, reacted to the clip:

BURNETT: What do you say that? “Greatest amount of support from Donald Trump and his team” as he’s heading to prison and of course, Trump is not.

COHEN: And look where you’re going! And trust me, it’s easy to be a television tough guy when you’re on the outside. When you’re on the inside, the rules – whether you’re in a satellite camp, a low like I was in, or you’re in maximum security – the rules are still the rules. He doesn’t live by those rules. He’s never had to live by those rules. This is an adjustment that he has no idea what he’s in store for.

BURNETT: It is incredible when think about it. All right, thank you so much, Michael. I appreciate it.

COHEN: Let me also just say the food is terrible.

Navarro was subpoenaed by the now-defunct Jan. 6 committee investigating Trump’s actions after losing the 2020 presidential election. The former adviser was one of the most vocal proponents of a plan urging former Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to certify the results of the election in Congress. The matter would then be returned to the states where Republican-controlled legislatures in states Trump lost would send Trump slates of electors to be counted in the Electoral College.

Navarro refused to comply, prompting Congress to send a criminal referral to the Department of Justice, which subsequently prosecuted him.
