McCain Scolds GOP Over Closed-Door Health Care Meetings: ‘We’re Doing the Same Thing’ Democrats Did

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) is saying that his Republican colleagues should really allow the American Health Care Act to be unveiled and openly debated on the Senate floor.

Last night, Senate Democrats kept their recent efforts to pressure Republicans to take their health care reform bill out of closed meetings, and put it up for open discussion. Many Democrats are reminding the GOP about how much criticism they got back in 2009, when they engaged in similar behavior as they were pushing the Affordable Care Act through Congress.

During a press gaggle on Tuesday, McCain noted that Senate Republicans shouldn’t repeat this course of action now that the shoe is on the other foot:

“We used to complain like hell when the Democrats ran the Affordable Care Act,” said McCain. “Now we’re doing the same thing.”
